A six-hour standoff in North Augusta, Tuesday, ended with a man headed to jail. It happened on Womrath Court, just off Womrath Road in North Augusta, that’s near Carolina Springs Road. WJBF News Channel 6’s Joy Howe has more.

Newton County officials say two sheriff’s deputies have been hospitalized with wounds after a standoff with a man who was later found shot to death. Lt. Tyrone Oliver of the Newton County Sheriff’s Department says the deputies were shot on Monday when they approached the man’s home after receiving a call about a suicide threat.

A former South Carolina police officer who authorities say kidnapped and held his estranged wife and infant son hostage in Georgia says he intends to enter an insanity plea.

Investigators with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office are in front of a home on Danvers Avenue, in the Pepperidge Subdivision, in Augusta, as a man is refusing to leave his home following a domestic dispute. Deputies believe he has access to weapons in the home and they are cautiously trying to convince him to leave, peacefully. UPDATE: The standoff has ended peacefully. A hearing has been postponed for a former South Carolina police officer who authorities say kidnapped and held his estranged wife and infant son hostage in Georgia.
