SC Trooper Heading To Court On Civil Rights Charge

A South Carolina trooper caught on video trying to run down a suspect is scheduled to be in court this week. Lance Cpl. Alexander Richardson is expected to appear before a federal judge on Tuesday.

Seven SC Officers Worked Without Driver’s License

South Carolina Public Safety director Mark Keel says seven officers have been suspended for working while their driver’s licenses were suspended. The State reported the agency investigated after the newspaper filed a Freedom of Information Act request for the driving records for Senior Trooper John McGaha and reported his license had been suspended.

Pedestrian Killed In Aiken County Traffic Collision

According to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton, an April 20th traffic collision has left an Aiken County woman dead. At approximately 10:41 p.m., Monday night, 21-year-old Jennifer L. Launderville was struck by a vehicle as she walked on Pine Log Road, in Aiken County.

SC DPS Director: Budget Cut Would Mean More Highway Deaths

The Director of the South Carolina Department of Public Safety says if a 27 percent budget cut happens, as Senate budget writers are now considering, the state would lose nearly 300 troopers. The state has 870 troopers currently. WJBF News Channel 6’s SC Capitol reporter, Robert Kittle, has more.

Racing For Cover: Tornado Victims Scramble To Beat Rain

Monday became a race against the weather for people still trying to pick through the rubble to find belongings, in Aiken County. Hundreds woke up to a disaster, early Saturday morning. Beech Island, and the surrounding areas were the hardest hit. Emergency crews say half a dozen homes are destroyed. The clean-up is still in the early stages, and now comes the news that another storm is rolling in. WJBF News Channel 6’s Joy Howe has the story.

Husband Runs Over, Kills Wife In Greenville Parking Lot

Authorities say an 89-year-old woman has died after her husband hit her with their car in a Greenville grocery store parking lot. Greenville County Deputy Coroner Kent Dill told The Greenville News that 89-year-old Jesse Roaden was pulling the car to the front of the store to pick up his wife Saturday afternoon when he lost control of the vehicle.

Three Women Die In SC Wreck, Troopers Cite Speed

The Highway Patrol says three women died when their car ran off a road and hit some trees in rural Orangeburg County. Troopers say the wreck happened about 1:30 Monday morning south of Rowesville.

Perry, SC Woman Dies In Wagener, SC Crash

According to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton, Geneise R. Williams, 43, of Perry, SC was pronounced dead at the scene of a 3:00 p.m. car crash in Wagener, SC on Sunday.

A North Augusta woman has turned herself into authorities, after being charged with 2 counts of Felony DUI. Julie Pfinnig Lafon, 45, Is accused of driving down the wrong side of I-20, while intoxicated, on January 31st.

UPDATED: Ambulance Crash Kills Burn Patient

One person is dead after an ambulance wreck in Lexington County today. A spokeswoman for the Joseph M. Still Burn Center says an independent ambulance service was transporting a patient from the burn center to a hospital in North Carolina when the vehicle crashed.

UPDATED: Aiken County Deputy Shot Twice, Shoots Back and Kills Suspect

A gunfight in Aiken County left a suspect dead, and a deputy recovering from his injuries. Aiken County Sheriff Michael Hunt says the deputy was shot twice by a suspect holding a convenience store clerk hostage. WJBF News Channel 6’s Joy Howe has more.

Employees with the South Carolina Department of Public Safety are being asked to take incentive packages…and go find new jobs. They can either take the Retirement Incentive Plan (RIP) or the Voluntary Separation Program (VSP). This includes troopers with the Highway Patrol, and already some in our area are taking the department up on the offer. WJBF News Channel 6’s Joy Howe has the story.
