Fort Gordon Holds Prayer Vigil for Fort Hood Shooting Victims

Soldiers, the Installation Chaplain, and the General gathered to hold a prayer vigil, Friday, to honor the 13 lives that were lost at Fort Hood, by respecting their memory at Fort Gordon. WJBF News Channel 6’s Joy Howe reports.

The Fallen Come Home To Barnwell

While President Obama honored the return of eighteen Americans who were killed in Afghanistan, this week, here at home, one group is making sure its heroes who gave their lives for freedom are not forgotten. President Barack Obama has spent a few hours getting a first-hand look at the cost of war: the Americans who return in flag-covered caskets. Obama made a midnight trip to Dover Air Force Base in Delaware base to honor the return of 18 Americans killed in Afghanistan this week.

Marines, Sailors At Fort Gordon Run To Remember The Fallen

Remembering the fallen…Saturday, Marines and Sailors at Fort Gordon began their tribute to honor those who have lost their lives in Iraq or Afghanistan, over the past year. Marines and sailors run 24 hours a day, for 21 days…an honor not just for the fallen, but also for the runners. This is the only tribute of its kind in the nation, and it’s the fifth year they have done it. WJBF News Channel 6’s Barclay Bishop was at Fort Gordon, on Monday, and she has more on this tribute.

Soldier At Fort Jackson Dies Of Heatstroke

A soldier at Fort Jackson has died after collapsing during a physical fitness test. The Army says 19-year-old Private Jamal Britt, from Edgewood, MD, died Wednesday evening at Providence Northeast Hospital. WJBF News Channel 6’s SC Capitol reporter Robert Kittle, and Joseph Kasko, have more.

SC Soldiers Still Missing From Wars To Be Honored

Dozens of South Carolinians missing from foreign wars, as well as those held as prisoners, will be recognized during a luncheon as part of a national day of awareness. ‘The Post and Courier’ of Charleston reports that the luncheon for ex-POWS and those missing in action is being held Friday at Charleston Air Force Base as part of National Prisoner of War-Missing in Action Recognition Day.

U.S. Army: 4 Soldiers Killed In Colorado Helicopter Crash

The Army says four soldiers died after a Black Hawk helicopter crashed on Colorado’s second-highest mountain. The helicopter crashed Wednesday afternoon near the summit of 14,421-foot Mount Massive. The Army’s Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg, N.C., announced the deaths Thursday.

Wounded Warrior Luncheon Held In Augusta

Taking the time out to say thanks. That’s what the folks at American Legion Post 178 did Monday. They fed about 35 soldiers, who have returned from Iraq with injuries.

More Swine flu Cases Confirmed At Fort Gordon

N1H1 (swine flu) is back in the news, as federal officials called on every state, on Thursday, to get ready for more outbreaks this fall. And here at home, Fort Gordon officials confirmed two more cases of the illness. In total, eight people have been diagnosed with the virus at Fort Gordon, in the past few weeks…including the two new cases reported Thursday. WJBF News channel 6’s Fraendy Clervaud has more on the story.
