South Carolina Department of Transportation officials want to hear what Aiken residents want to see done about traffic issues on Silver Bluff Road. Thursday night, they meet together to get feedback from the community, and pitch some new ideas of their own. WJBF News Channel 6’s Joy Howe explains.

An Aiken County man’s body has been found, and his death is being investigated as suspicious.Aiken Coroner Tim Carlton says 53-year old Bernard Jones of Aiken was pronounced dead at the scene, on the 2900 block of Green Bush Road, after being discovered by family members around 2:00 p.m. at a local club at the location. UPDATE: According to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton, 53-year-old Bernard Jones’ autopsy was performed in Newberry, SC Monday morning. The autopsy revealed Jones died as a result from his injuries from being beaten and gunshot wounds. His death is now ruled a homicide. The official cause of death is exsanguination. The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death.

Due to a main line break on Gray Mare Hollow Road, all residents on Gray Mare Hollow Road, from St. Marks Church to Silver Bluff Road and those living on Storm Branch Road within the Talatha Rural Community Water District (TRC Water District) area were urged to vigorously boil all water used for cooking and drinking for at least three (3) minutes, on June 15th. That advisory has now been repealed.

A new rehab center opened its doors in Aiken, on Monday. The “Aiken Physical Medicine and Rehab Center” had a ribbon-cutting ceremony at their new location off of Silver Bluff Road.

It was a move to expand University Hospital’s Medical Center to the other side of the river. But, that stopped short because some folks in the City of Aiken didn’t want it. WJBF News Channel 6’s Fraendy Clervaud has the story.

Residents in the Silver Bluff Road area in Aiken say they’re happy with a new compromise from the county. A year ago, there was talk of widening that road from two lanes…to five. Count on Joy Howe to tell us what route officials are taking now.
