H1N1 Flu Vaccine Clinics Scheduled For Aiken County Schools

DHEC H1N1 clinics have been scheduled in some Aiken County schools, for November and December. This list does not include all Aiken County schools, as the Aiken County Board of Education has not received available dates from DHEC for January, but all Aiken County schools will be holding H1N1 vaccine clinics.

Storms, Flooding Shut Down Atlanta Public Schools

Hundreds of schools have been shut down as heavy storms move through Georgia. Classes will not be held Tuesday for students at Atlanta, Cobb, Carroll, DeKalb, Douglas, Forsyth, Fulton, Gwinnett, Marietta, Rockdale and Paulding schools.

Richmond County Teachers Decide If President Obama Gets Airtime During Class

Local school leaders each made their own calls whether the President’s address would be showed at lunchtime, Tuesday. In Richmond County, the decision was left up to the teachers. WJBF News Channel 6’s Paige Tucker went to a school where most teachers showed the broadcast during class.

WJBF News Channel 6 has learned that there have been 11 confirmed swine flu cases in the Aiken County School System. We have also been told dozens more students have been sent home with flu-like symptoms.

GA Group To Look At Child Abuse At Schools

Gov. Sonny Perdue is starting a new panel to examine allegations of abuse at schools in the state. He wants the group to develop a way for parents and students to report abuse involving school employees so that every district has a uniform way to handle such cases. The group is made up of school district administrators from across the state, a district attorney and a parent representative.

Swine flu is expected to return when kids go back to school, and the government is hoping its new advice on when to shut down schools during an outbreak will prevent the panic and confusion that led to hundreds of school closures last spring. The government was to issue new guidance Friday for schools to follow when swine flu strikes. Unlike regular seasonal flu, this virus has not retreated during the hot and humid summer months and so far has infected more than 1 million Americans.
