New Reports Say SRS Manager Forced Out

New details are emerging on the management shake-up at the Savannah River Site: Department of Energy officials are being tight-lipped about the re-assignment of their top dog at the site, but new reports out Wednesday claim trouble has been brewing for quite some time. WJBF News Channel 6’s Joy Howe reports.

Shake-Up Underway At SRS

A major shake up appears to be underway at the Savannah River Site. Late Tuesday afternoon, WJBF News Channel 6 has learned that Jeffery Allison, the site manager, is being re-assigned to Washington, and will no longer be working at the Savannah River Site. A DOE spokesperson says four others have been re-assigned, as well.

UPDATED: SRS Employees Treated After Nitric Acid Exposure

Three SRNS employees were transported via ambulance to Doctors Hospital in Augusta after exposure to nitric acid during a work activity at approximately 7:44 a.m., Tuesday morning. UPDATE: WJBF News Channel 6 has learned that two of the workers have been treated and released from Doctors Hospital, and the third is still being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Ground broken for new facillity at SRS

Workers broke ground Friday for the second facility in the Savannah River Site’s (SRS) plutonium disposition complex.  According to a news release from SRS, “the new facility is the Waste Solidification Building (WSB), which will process low-level and transuranic liquid waste streams from the new Mixed Oxide Fuel Fabrication Facility (MFFF) and pit disassembly operations”.

SRS Test Program Honored By Department Of Homeland Security

According to a press release, the Domestic Nuclear Detection Office’s (DNDO) Crawdad Test and Evaluation Program, carried out at the Savannah River National Laboratory this summer, has been awarded the Secretary’s DHS Team Award by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security.
