Sarah Palin Stumps For Saxby Chambliss In Augusta

Georgia’s hotly contested U.S. Senate runoff campaign is almost over. Incumbent Saxby Chambliss and challenger, Jim Martin, have been fighting tooth and nail for Chambliss’ seat. Both candidates were in the Garden City this morning, trying to drum up support in the campaign’s final hours. Senator Chambliss brought a political heavy hitter with him. Alaska Governor Sarah Palin attended a Chambliss rally at the James Brown Arena, and Jim Martin atended a rally at Augusta’s Democratic headquarters. WJBF News Channel 6’s Paige Tucker has the story.

McCain wins Georgia, Senate Race Heading for Runoff

Republican John McCain claimed Georgia’s 15 electoral votes, beating back Democrat Barack Obama’s drive to turn the GOP stronghold blue. The win in Georgia was bittersweet. McCain already has conceded defeat to Obama, who’s now White House bound. But GOP Senator Saxby Chambliss wasn’t strong enough to avoid a runoff election.  He finished with less than 50% of the vote.

Talk grows of runoff for U.S. Senate seat from Georgia

The “what-if” scenario gaining currency in Georgia political circles goes something like this: After all the votes are counted on Election Day none of the three U.S. Senate candidates gets a majority.  The race heads into a Dec. 2 runoff between Republican incumbent Saxby Chambliss and Democrat Jim Martin. Democrats have picked up enough Senate seats nationally to pull within striking distance of a filibuster-proof 60-member supermajority.
