How Aiken Deals with Landlords and Problem Properties

The City of Aiken requires landlords to register and provide their contact information and a local emergency contact if they’re out of town. It’s been in place for a year, and the city manager says it’s already helping code and law enforcement officers. WJBF News Channel 6’s Paige Tucker reports.

Aiken Moving Ahead With Odell Weeks Center Security Measures

It’s been two months since a shooting at the Odell Weeks Center in Aiken sparked questions about the facility’s security. Surveillance video from the cameras at the Weeks Center captured a basketball game interrupted by gunfire. A few weeks later, an officer found a gun in student’s book bag. Now, new security measures are being put into place to make the Odell Weeks Center safer. WJBF News Channel 6’s Joy Howe has more.

Aiken City Council OK’s Odell Weeks Center Security Upgrades

After a shooting, earlier this month…an Aiken County recreation center is looking at security upgrades. Somebody shot a man at the H. Odell Weeks Center, in May. He got hit in the shoulder…but will be okay. This case has put the spotlight on a place that’s known for being safe, a place for people to exercise and play without being worried about crime. So far, there are no suspects in this case…but now that school’s out, more kids will hang out at the center…and some major changes could be in the works. WJBF News Channel 6’s Barclay Bishop has more.

Making Whiskey Flow: Stimulus Money Could Help Aiken Traffic Congestion Problems

Traffic on Whiskey Road, in Aiken, drives some people crazy. But, there’s good news to report: changes are coming and they could help speed things along. Aiken and North Augusta will get $2.9 million from stimulus funds, money that is to be used for road improvements. Aiken leaders will use part of that money to synchronize the lights on Whiskey Road. The money won’t arrive until late summer, or early fall…so for now, a “quick fix” is on the way. WJBF News Channel 6’s Joy Howe has the story.
