Richmond County School Board Struggles to Balance Budget

Richmond County School System’s Georgia High School Graduation Scores Improve
According to Louis Svehla, Public Information Officer for the Richmond County Board of Education, the Richmond County School System is proud to release the preliminary results from this year’s high school graduation tests. These are preliminary numbers that could change.
Richmond County Schools Online School Zone Locator Updated
According to Louis Svehla, Public Information Officer for the Richmond County Board of Education (RCBOE), their online school zone locator for the 2009-2101 school year has been updated. The changes reflect the new zones based on the current Rightsizing process and the approvals given by RCBOE.

Richmond County Not Renewing Some Teacher Contracts
It could be the end of the line for some Richmond County teachers. Those who didn’t make the grade…won’t be back in the classroom. Two dozen teachers received letters of non-renewal. The reasons were varied, from lapses in certification, to not following procedure. Tenured teachers can appeal Superintendent Dr. Dana Bedden’s decision, but in the end, he says it comes down to accountability. WJBF News Channel 6’s Renita Crawford has the story.

UPDATED: Power Restored In Morgan Road Area Of Richmond County
According to Louis Svehla, the Richmond County Board of Education’s (RCBOE) Public Information Officer, the area of Morgan Road Middle School and Jamestown Elementary School is currently experiencing a power outage. Power has now been restored. The outage was caused by an issue with Jefferson Electric.

Richmond County School Rezoning Plan Approved
At a Richmond County Board of Education meeting, Tuesday night, plans were approved to rezone some Richmond County high school and middle school students.
Vote Scheduled Tuesday Night On Richmond County School Reightsizing
Richmond County School Board members are scheduled to vote on revamping its schools, in the wake of an unstable economy. For the past few months, board members and Superintendent Doctor Bedden have been meeting about rightsizing. Under the plan, some schools would consolidate, and others would close. And, as the board prepares to make a decision, the rightsizing agenda is not sitting well with some parents and teachers. A vote on the plan was expected Tuesday night, but Dr. Bedden is now saying he’s not sure whether that vote will happen, Tuesday night. WJBF News Channel 6’s Fraendy Clervaud has more.
