Richmond County Still Working on School Bus Issues
Parents say they’re concerned their children are riding overcrowded buses, in many cases standing on the bus to and from school. The district says they’re working to correct transportation issues. WJBF News Channel 6’s Paige Tucker reports.

Special RCBOE Election To Be Held November 3 To Replace Joe Scott
According to Richmond County Board of Elections Executive Director Lynn Bailey, at its special called meeting, held August 3, 2009, the Richmond County Board of Elections unanimously voted to call for the special election to fill the vacancy in Board of Education District 5 to be held on November 3, 2009 in conjunction with the scheduled General Municipal Election.

Money challenges are facing school leaders in Richmond County. The school system is more than $7 million in the hole. Dr. Dana Bedden, Superintendent for the Richmond County School System, says ongoing state budget cuts will leave Richmond County schools without enough resources to properly educate students. School Budget Cuts… Here We Go Again
It’s a tough decision for local educators as they deal with more state budget cuts. Georgia sales tax collections are down and the state is sending less money to public schools and universities. Augusta Richmond County Superintendent Doctor Dana Bedden says despite this new cut, he was able keep jobs and not lay anyone off. This time he was able to get $4.4 million from the reserves. Richmond County School Superintendent Makes Statement about Joe Scott’s Death
Richmond County School Board member Joe Scott died in his sleep, Friday night. His colleagues say his death was unexpected and shocking. Superintendent Dr. Dana Bedden released a statement regarding Scott’s death.
Richmond County School Board Member Joe Scott Dies
WJBF has confirmed that longtime local educator and school board member Joe Scott died in his sleep Friday night. Scott represented district five on the board. It is believed that Mr. Scott died of natural causes. He was 72.

Updated Budget Projection Shows Richmond County Schools’ Deficit Nearly $8 Million
According to Louis Svehla, the Public information Director for the Richmond County School System (RCSS), based on additional information now available, the state projected educational budget cuts will affect RCSS by approximately $7.5 million.

Dr. Bedden Braces For School Budget Pain
Richmond County School Superintendent Doctor Dana Bedden is facing to make deep cuts to his budget because school Board members voted against a tax increase. This year’s budget is now more than $1 milllon out of whack, and that’s not counting possible state cuts. But, board members say, in these tough times, it’s tough to ask taxpayers for more.
