SC Board Pardons Relatives of Tom Joyner; Executed in 1915

South Carolina’s Parole and Pardons board unanimously pardoned two great-uncles of national radio host Tom Joyner Wednesday. Thomas and Meeks Griffin were convicted of the 1913 murder of a white farmer in Chester County. Joyner came to Columbia from Dallas to plead their case. UPDATED: SC Professor Excited About Shooting The Moon

A Citadel professor who worked on the project to shoot the moon says he was excited when a rocket stage and satellite crashed into a moon crater. Luke Sollitt says the main objective of the Friday mission was to hit the crater near the south pole of the moon. He says it could be days or longer before data is analyzed to see if water was found there.

Wild Dogs That Killed Retired UGA Professor, Wife Being Rounded Up

Authorities are carrying out a court-ordered euthanization of dogs believed to be part of a pack that killed a couple in northeast Georgia. By Tuesday evening, 11 dogs and 5 puppies had been taken to the Madison-Oglethorpe animal shelter as part of a round-up of dogs that might have been involved.

Sheriff: Retired UGA Professor, Wife Likely Killed In Dog Attack

Authorities have identified a couple found dead along a road in rural Oglethorpe County. Authorities say the couple found dead by Jehovah’s Witnesses Saturday morning were 77-year-old Lothar Karl Schweder and his wife, 65-year-old Sherry L. Schweder.

An Athens-based agency that helps battered women says a University of Georgia professor’s April 25 shooting of his wife, two others and himself has increased the number of women reaching out for help. Project Safe’s hotlines received about 116 calls a month in 2008 and through this April.

Athens Theater Group Vows Comeback After Shootings

An Athens community theater troupe is vowing a return to the stage this summer after three of its members were fatally shot by a University of Georgia professor last month. Officials say the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab confirmed Saturday that the body is 57-year-old University of Georgia marketing professor George Zinkhan.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, two revised sketches of UGA shooting suspect George Zinkhan may make it easier to spot him even if he has shaved off his hair or beard, said the Georgia Bureau of Investigation artist who developed the different looks for Athens police investigators.

Police: UGA Professor’s Passport Found In Jeep

Athens-Clarke County police say they’ve found the passport of a University of Georgia professor suspected of killing his wife and two others outside a community theater. Capt. Clarence Holeman confirmed Monday that the passport of George Zinkhan was found inside the wrecked Jeep uncovered in a ravine a few miles from his home Friday. Authorities say the marketing professor never showed up Saturday for a flight he had scheduled to Amsterdam prior to the April 25 shootings.
