A fire department spokesman says one person was killed and four others wounded when a man with an assault rifle walked into a St. Louis plant and began shooting. Fire Department spokesman Bob Keuss says authorities believe the shooter is still in the building.

State-owned utility Santee Cooper is expected to drop plans for a controversial coal-fired power plant in South Carolina. The State newspaper of Columbia reported Monday that the utility’s board is expected to ratify a committee’s earlier vote to suspend efforts to secure permits for the Florence County plant.

The South Carolina Natural Resources Department doesn’t like the plan by the state-owned utility to build a coal-fired power plant in the northeastern part of the state.
