The weatherman cooperated on Thursday and minimized weather distractions during play of the second round of the Palmetto Amateur. One of the first round leaders, Josh Gallman from Gaffney, SC, held on to his position in the lead by shooting an even par 70 and now stands at three under par.

The first round of the 2009 Palmetto Amateur is complete. Two contestants shot three under on the par 70 Palmetto Golf Club course, Josh Gallman, a member of the University of South Carolina Upstate golf team and Hunter Slatton, who plays for the University of Alabama.

Early Wednesday morning, the 34th Palmetto Amateur tees off at historic Palmetto Golf Club in Aiken. Some of the country’s top amateur players will attack the second oldest 18-hole course in the United States. Palmetto is a true gem…and if this tournament can find the right spot on the schedule…it could become one of the top amateur tournaments in the country, which is the club’s goal. Top-ranked USC Aiken won its second consecutive tournament with a victory at the 12th Annual Cleveland Golf Palmetto Intercollegiate at the par 70 6,617-yard Palmetto Golf Club.
