SC NAACP Meeting In NC To Continue Flag Boycott
The South Carolina NAACP has chosen Charlotte, North Carolina, for its annual meeting, continuing the boycott of the Palmetto state because of the Confederate flag at the Statehouse in Columbia. The Herald of Rock Hill reported that NAACP officials announced Monday that Charlotte had been selected for the October 8th to the 11th meeting.

NAACP To Use Latest Technology To Fight Racism
The NAACP may be 100 years old, but it’s using the latest technology to fight racism. The NAACP will officially launch the program to monitor incidents of police misconduct at its annual convention in New York City. Members are gathering there to mark NAACP’s centennial; The civil rights group was founded in New York City in 1909.

UPDATED: Former SC Election Leader Apologizes For Gorilla Comment About First Lady
A former South Carolina election official has apologized for his Internet posting that compared a gorilla to an ancestor of first lady Michelle Obama. Former state Election Commission Chairman Rusty DePass read a statement during an NAACP news conference in Columbia Wednesday saying his comments were offensive and foolish. Smaller Crowds, Fewer Vendors Attend SC Bike Rally
Officials say a smaller crowd showed up for a South Carolina bike rally and fewer vendors lined the streets of Atlantic Beach to sell merchandise. Town Manager Kenneth McIver told The Sun News of Myrtle Beach that at least 175,000 people attended the Atlantic Beach Bikefest, which ended Monday. In past years, crowds of up to 400,000 people attended.

Democrats In SC House Walk Out To Protest Voter Photo ID Bill
Debate is normal at the South Carolina Statehouse. Heated debate is occasional. But on Thursday, members of the Legislative Black Caucus and some other Democrats were so upset they walked out of the House chamber in protest. They had fought for hours against a bill that would require all voters to show a state-issued photo ID to be able to vote. WJBF News Channel 6’s Capitol reporter, Robert Kittle, has the story.

NAACP Protests At Local Fox Station Over Post Cartoon
Dr. Charles Smith, President of the NAACP is asking station Fox 54, WFXG General Manager Barry Barth to join the agency in expressing its outrage over the New York Post cartoon by forwarding a letter outlining their concerns and their outrage. A February 12 cartoon in the Post shows a primate being shot by two police officers with the caption, “I guess they’ll have to find somone else to write the next stimulus bill.“ The NAACP says that the cartoon, juxtaposed against a photo of President Obama signing the stimulus package is the latest in a racially insensitive pattern at the New York Post and Fox News. Civil Rights Group Demands Answers After Cherry Tree Crossing Shooting
The Southern Christian Leadership Conference marched through the Cherry Tree Crossing community to protest the shooting of Justin Elmore. It says Richmond County deputies overreacted and the group is demanding answers. The Sheriff say Elmore was a drug dealer and had drugs and weapons in his vehicle. Elmore more died Tuesday from his injuries. There have been several nights of unrest among residents following the shooting and Elmore’s passing. NAACP Wants Investigation After Clayton Commission Votes To Move More Than 300 Graves
