UPDATED: Babysitter Charged In Baby’s Death
A Columbia County babysitter is charged with killing the baby she was supposed to be watching. Lawanda Concettes Tripp, 39, has been arrested, charged with the murder of 22-month-old Tearia Michele Hall. It happened on Avery Landing Drive…just off Belair Road. Richmond County Murder Suspect Killed By 2 Deputies

Suspect Arrested In Deadly Walterboro, SC Drive-By Shooting
Police in South Carolina have charged a man in connection with a drive-by shooting in which three people, including a 20-month old toddler, were killed. ‘The Post and Courier of Charleston’ reported Wednesday that 19-year-old Danziel Chapman of Walterboro is charged with murder and being held in the Colleton County jail.
Army: Fort Hood Shooting Suspect Charged With 13 Counts Of Murder
Major Nidal Malik Hasan, the Army psychiatrist suspected in a deadly rampage at Fort Hood, Texas, has been charged in a military court with 13 counts of premeditated murder.

Jury Selection Begins In Stephen Stanko’s Second Trial
A man already on South Carolina’s death row for killing his girlfriend is going on trial again in another death penalty case. Jury selection began Monday in Stephen Stanko’s second trial. A judge ruled he was competent to stand trial last week. Opening statements are expected in a few days.

Mark McClain Executed, Victim’s Co-Worker Remembers Tragic Night
At 7:24 p.m., Tuesday evening…Mark McClain was pronounced dead after being executed by lethal injection…14 years after he shot and killed Kevin Brown inside a Domino’s Pizza on Washington Road…12 years after he was found guilty of that crime, and sentenced to die. Kevin Brown’s father died shortly after the murder, but those who are still around, and knew Kevin, they say it’s a somber day, like John Eckburg, a friend and former co-worker of Kevin’s. A man convicted of murdering an Augusta Domino’s Pizza store manager during a robbery, 15 years ago, is scheduled to be executed Tuesday night. Mark Howard McClain is scheduled to be executed at 7 p.m. at the state prison in Jackson. UPDATE: Mark McClain was pronounced dead at 7:24 p.m., Tuesday night.

SC Board Pardons Relatives of Tom Joyner; Executed in 1915
South Carolina’s Parole and Pardons board unanimously pardoned two great-uncles of national radio host Tom Joyner Wednesday. Thomas and Meeks Griffin were convicted of the 1913 murder of a white farmer in Chester County. Joyner came to Columbia from Dallas to plead their case. Mark McClain Asks Nation’s Top Court For Reprieve
A Georgia death row inmate is asking the nation’s top court to halt his execution until it resolves an Alabama death penalty case he says could affect his legal challenge. Mark McClain asked the U.S. Supreme Court to delay the execution because a ruling in the other case could “alter the legal prism” through which his case is viewed.

October 20th Execution Set For Convicted Augusta Murderer
The Georgia Department of Corrections has set Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. for the execution of a convicted Richmond County murderer. A warrant signed Thursday by a judge permits the state to execute 43-year-old Mark McClain at any time between noon Oct. 20 and noon Oct. 27 at the state prison in Jackson.

Stephen Stanko On Trial For Second Murder
A man who is already on South Carolina’s death row for killing his girlfriend now faces a second death penalty if he’s convicted of killing a Conway, SC man. Stephen Stanko was arrested at the Augusta Exchange, back in 2005.
