SC Governor Mark Sanford Has $1.7 Million in Campaign Money, Can Use For Legal Bills

Governor Mark Sanford has $1.7 million left in campaign money… and he plans to use some of it to pay his legal bills. He’s being investigated by the South Carolina Ethics Commission for his travel and use of state planes. New Ellenton, South Carolina police are looking into a counterfeit ring. Investigators say 6 businesses have received the bogus $100 bills, and they believe the man in this video is the one passing the fake money.

SC Archives Finds Confederate-Era Money No One Knew Existed

A retired USC history professor who’s volunteering his time to go through boxes of Confederate-era money at the South Carolina Department of Archives and History made a surprising discovery Tuesday morning. There was a scary situation, Sunday evening, for some employees at Augusta’s Burlington Coat Factory. Employees told police they were counting money in the back of the store, just after the 7:00 p.m., when two men wearing masks waved a gun and demanded money from them.

South Carolina’s top educator spent the day, Wednesday, explaining to lawmakers how the school system should handle the economy. Superintendent Jim Rex wants districts to be able to lower some salaries…and furlough teachers. K-12 education has lost more than $334 million this past year. He wants lawmakers to give districts more flexibility in how they spend state money.
