Georgia Board Of Regents Suing MCG Foundation

The Georgia Board of Regents has filed a lawsuit against a private foundation for continuing to use the Medical College of Georgia’s name more than a year after the campus severed ties with the organization. The lawsuit filed Tuesday in Richmond County Superior Court demands that the Medical College of Georgia Foundation, Inc. stop using its moniker immediately and cease collecting donations on behalf of the state’s only public medical school. The Augusta-based medical school split from its $152 million foundation in June 2008 after years of feuding between the two institutions.

Columbia County Student Dies From Complications Of Swine Flu

There’s new information on the death of a Columbia County girl from the flu. Columbia County Coroner Vernon Collins comfirms Tuesday evening she died from complications of the Swine Flu, on Saturday. This death has some parents asking questions about H1N1 and seasonal flu. WJBF News Channel 6’s Fraendy Clervaud has the story.

UPDATED: Columbia County Child Dies From Flu

A 10-year old child from Columbia County has died from the flu. Columbia County Coroner Vernon Collins confirms Summer Rockefeller died early Saturday morning at an Atlanta hospital from complications of the flu, possibly swine flu. We have information for those wishing to donate to the family.

Greenwood, SC Man Dies At MCG After Aiken County Crash

According to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton, a Greenwood, SC man died Sunday evening after a crash on I-20. Justin Ryan Heinz, 28, of Greenwood, was pronounced dead at Medical College of Georgia Sunday night around 9:27 p.m.

UPDATED: Third Suspect Arrested In T&S Drive Murder In Aiken County

Aiken County Investigators are searching for two men. They say Maurice Council and Akia Jordan shot and killed a teenager at T&S Mobile Home Park Wednesday night. It’s the third murder there in the last two years. Neighbors want more of a police presence in the area, but police say without community cooperation, everyone is running out of options. WJBF News Channel 6’s Joy Howe has more. UPDATE: Sammy Leon Smith, 33, has now been arrested in connection to the death of 16-year-old James Collins.

Murder Suspect In Custody In Blackville, SC

One person is in custody following a shooting in Blackville, South Carolina. Demetrius Smalls is charged with murder in the death of Terrance Mayes. Mayes brother, Zantrell, was also shot, and is currently at MCG.

Murder Suspect Sought In Augusta

WJBF News Channel 6 has learned that a man was shot and killed Monday night at Salem Arms Apartments. Darryl Walden had been shot in the chest and died from his injuries Tuesday morning.
