A Columbia County mother and son accused of beating their neighbor to death went before a judge for pre-trial motions Tuesday. WJBF News Channel 6’s Paige Tucker reports.

According to EdgefieldDaily.com, an Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office Deputy responding to a call of a wreck on Republican Road lost control of his patrol car, hit an embankment, and reportedly was ejected from the car as it burst into flames. An ambulance responding to the first wreck happened upon the deputy lying on the side of the road and began treating him for his injuries. UPDATE: The deputy has now been released from MCG and is resting at home.

Becky Sears and her son Christopher Bowers plead not guilty to murder, armed robbery, and burglary charges in the beating death of Sears’ neighbor, Kay Parsons. An expected bond hearing was delayed. Count on WJBF’s Renita Crawford for the latest in the case.

A Columbia County mother and son plead not guilty to capital murder…Rebecca Bowers Sears, 41, and her 20-year-old son, Christopher Sean Bowers, entered a plea in court, Wednesday morning.

Becky Sears, and her son, Christopher Bowers, are scheduled for an arraignment, May 13th. They’re accused in the beating death of their next door neighbor, Kay Parsons, March 25th, in Columbia County. Count on WJBF News Channel 6’s Renita Crawford for the latest.

A mother and her 20-year-old son have been indicted on charges they robbed and killed a next door neighbor. A Columbia County grand jury indicted 41-year-old Rebecca Sears and her son, Christopher Bowers, in the March 25 death of 41-year-old Laverne “Kay” Parsons.

The attorney representing murder suspect, Christopher Bowers, says his client will plead not guilty. Jacque Hawk is representing Bowers. His brother, Victor Hawk, will be defending Bower’s mother, Becky Sears. Count on WJBF News Channel 6’s Renita Crawford for the latest in the investigation.
