Augusta’s MOST Has Momentum
Is it the answer to Augusta’s future budget troubles, a one percent increase in the local sales tax? It’s called a MOST, or Municipal Option Sales Tax, and next week Augusta city leaders will give the idea some serious consideration. WJBF News Channel 6’s George Eskola has the story.

Augusta Mayor Appears In “The Blind Side”
An Augusta native is playing the lead role in what is being called one of the top ten movies of the year. The Blind Side opens Friday night, starring Glenn Hills graduate, Quinton Aaron, as Michael Oher…a homeless teen adopted by a suburban family who earns a college scholarship and is now a rookie with the Baltimore Ravens in the NFL. Quinton played one year of football at Glenn Hills before graduating in ‘03, but he mostly sang in the choir and now he’s got his first major starring role alongside Sandra Bullock and Tim McGraw. And, Quinton is not the only familiar face you will see in the film…Augusta Mayor Deke Copenhaver plays an assistant coach to former South Carolina coach, Lou Holtz. He spent a day in June filming his big scene…Barclay Bishop talked to him about how and why he went Hollywood.

TEE Center Move Could Send Hyatt Packing
Hotel developer warns Augusta city leaders that a planned 130-room Hyatt Place Hotel is dependent on Commissioners going ahead and building the proposed Trade Exhibit and Events Center at the approved site off Reynolds Street. Without the TEE Center it could be check out time for the hotel. Channel 6’s George Eskola has the story.

Augusta Single Mother Becomes New Homeowner In Harrisburg Neighborhood
An old home in Harrisburg is getting a new lease on life. It’s restoration is a joint effort by Homefirst Augusta, the City of Augusta and Wells Fargo. A groundbreaking ceremony was held Wednesday morning.

Augusta Under Microscope for ADA Violations
It’s a major civil rights law, the Americans with Disabilities Act, and audit teams from the U.S. Justice Department are in the Garden City to see if Augusta is following the law. Violations will need to be corrected at the city’s expense. WJBF News Channel 6’s George Eskola has the story.

Augusta Commission Forms Committee To Oversee City Law Department
City lawyers have drawn fire after complaints of the handling open records requests and using out of town attorneys to handle city court cases, but Augusta Commissioners have now formed a special executive committee to oversee the Law Department.

Bribery Business Puts TEE Center Committee On Ice
It is seen as a last ditch effort to salvage the TEE Center, but the arrest of an Augusta lawyer for attemping to bribe two Augusta Commissioners to support the project has Mayor Copenhaver suspending the meetings of the TEE Center sub-committee that was appointed last week. A local attorney behind bars after Sheriff Ronnie Strength says he tried to bribe two Augusta Commissioners. David Fry, 57, was arrested Tuesday morning at his home and charged with two counts of bribery. Count on our Fraendy Clervaud. He has the story.

Did Land Owner Pressure Help Push TEE Center Talks?
Augusta Commissioners are planning to again talk TEE Center. The trade center, and neighborhood redevelopment programs have been stuck in the mud since May. City leaders have agreed to form a committee to hammer out a deal and that could have been thanks to the pressure from a local businessman. WJBF News Channel 6’s George Eskola has the story.

TEE Center Talks: Last Ditch Effort To Save Project
It’s a last ditch effort to save Augusta’s TEE Center. Commissioners today put the fate of the stalled trade center project into the hands of Mayor Deke Copenhaver and a still unnamed four member sub-committee. They directed the sub committee to “hammer out” an agreement on the trade center and report back in two weeks.
