South Carolina GOP Meet To Discuss Governor Mark Sanford

Republican legislators in South Carolina are venting anger over one of their own - Gov. Mark Sanford.  The legislators held their House Majority Caucus meeting Saturday to set their agenda and capped their discussion with no one speaking in favor of the governor.  Rep. Greg Delleney says Sanford should be impeached solely because he disappeared from the state for five days in June to see his mistress in Argentina without leaving anyone clearly in control.

Jenny Sanford Releases Statement

South Carolina’s first lady says she asked Gov. Mark Sanford to leave home and stop talking to her two weeks before he publicly admitted an affair with a woman he visited on a secret trip to Argentina.  Jenny Sanford said in a statement Wednesday that she needed a trial separation from her husband of nearly 20 years to preserve her own sense of dignity.

SC 1st lady, staff won’t discuss gov’s whereabouts

Where is South Carolina’s governor? Gov. Mark Sanford’s wife said Monday she did not know the location of the two-term Republican chief executive. Sanford’s staff declined to disclose where he was.

Sanford Named Head of GOP Governor Group

South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford is the new chairman of the Republican Governors Association.  In a statement released by the group Friday, Sanford said he was honored to be elected by his colleagues. The association has been meeting this week in Miami - and some discussions have revolved around what went wrong for the party on Election Day.

SC governor urges residents to oppose bailout

Gov. Mark Sanford has asked the U.S. Treasury Secretary to investigate a South Carolina-based bank he believes is “gaming the system” in its request for federal bailout money.  In a news conference Monday, Sanford echoed warnings he made to Congress last month when he argued against a second stimulus package. He urged taxpayers to voice their opposition in e-mails and calls to their congressmen and senators.

Two governors are offering Congress opposite approaches to the ailing economy. New York’s David Paterson wants immediate aid for states from Congress. South Carolina’s Mark Sanford is urging the lawmakers not to throw more taxpayer money at the problem.
