North Augusta’s Tyler Colvin To Make MLB Debut Against Brewers

The Chicago Cubs suspended outfielder Milton Bradley for the rest of the season Sunday, one day after he criticized the team in a newspaper interview. Replacing Bradley on the Cubs roster is former North Augusta star Tyler Colvin. The OF was the Cubs number-one pick in the 2006 MLB draft. Colvin will be in the starting line-up on Monday night when the Cubs play at Milwaukee.

Boston Red Sox Release Smoltz

John Smoltz has been released by the Boston Red Sox. The right-hander signed with the Red Sox last January after two decades with Atlanta, hoping he could recover from shoulder surgery. But he struggled. And after eight starts with the Red Sox, Smoltz was 2-5 with an 8.32 ERA.

The Boston Red Sox have cut struggling pitcher John Smoltz. Red Sox general manager Theo Epstein delivered the news to Smoltz on Friday. The 42-year-old righty was designated for assignment, meaning Boston has 10 days to trade or release him.

Adam LaRoche is headed back to the Atlanta Braves, and Casey Kotchman is returning to the American League. In an exchange of first basemen, the Braves sent LaRoche to the Boston Red Sox for Kotchman and cash before Friday’s 4 p.m. deadline to make trades without waivers.

U.S. Supreme Court Won’t Block Remote Storage DVR System

Cable TV operators won a key legal battle against Hollywood studios and television networks on Monday as the Supreme Court declined to block a new digital video recording system that could make it even easier for viewers to bypass commercials. The justices declined to hear arguments on whether Cablevision Systems Corp.‘s remote-storage DVR system would violate copyright laws. That allows the Bethpage, N.Y.-based company to proceed with plans to start deploying the technology this summer.
