SC State Lawmakers Return To Columbia For Special Session
State lawmakers are back in Columbia, on Tuesday, to fix an oversight that is keeping the state from extending unemployment benefits. Lawmakers needed to change a state law, to make the state eligible for extra stimulus money from Washington, to extend those benefits. One state lawmaker also plans to introduce an impeachment resolution against Governor Mark Sanford. That’s expected to be sent to a committee,with no further action Tuesday.

SC Paying Unemployment Benefits to Workers Fired for Misconduct
South Carolina pays unemployment benefits to some workers who are fired from their jobs for everything from drug use to stealing to being late to work. It also pays benefits to some workers who quit their jobs voluntarily. Nearly one quarter of workers filing for unemployment benefits in South Carolina were fired for misconduct. Letter From Augusta Coliseum Authority Blasts Lawmakers

SC Attorney General Says Lawmakers Can’t Bypass Governor For Stimulus Money
Attorney General Henry McMaster has issued his opinion on whether South Carolina lawmakers can bypass Gov. Mark Sanford to request federal stimulus money. McMaster thinks lawmakers cannot go around the governor to ask for the money, even though South Carolina 6th District Congressman James Clyburn, the House Majority Whip, got an amendment inserted into the stimulus bill aimed at allowing them to do that.
