Judge Nixes SC Law Over Adult Business Billboards

A federal judge has ruled that a South Carolina law limiting the placement of billboards advertising adult businesses is unconstitutional. U.S. District Judge Cameron McGowan Currie issued the order last week.

Residents May Get to Vote On Lowering Drinking Age In South Carolina

It all started simply enough. A 20-year-old South Carolinian was a passenger in a car that was pulled over for a broken headlight. He was arrested for being a minor in possession of alcohol. But the magistrate hearing the case made a surprising ruling after hearing from defense attorney Joe McCulloch. Magistrate Mel Maurer ruled that the South Carolina law setting the drinking age at 21 is unconstitutional.

Georgia Mother Fights For Passage Of “Juan’s Law”

A Georgia mother is fighting for justice. In September 2001, Jacqueline Boatwright’s son, Anthony DeJuan, fell into a bucket of mop water while at a Hephzibah day care center. He was left with permanent brain damage. The center had no insurance, and now she is going to Washington hoping to change that. WJBF News Channel 6’s Barclay Bishop has more.

According to Joel Sawyer, Governor Mark Sanford’s Communications Director, in light of ongoing revisions to the federal REAL ID law (now renamed PASS ID), Gov. Feds Spike Georgia Law Requiring Citizenship Checks For Voting

The Justice Department has rejected Georgia’s attempt to require prospective voters in the state to provide proof of citizenship. Gov. Sonny Perdue signed the bill last month making Georgia the second state in the nation to require newly registering voters to prove they are U.S. citizens before casting a ballot. Under the Voting Rights Act, the state was required to get preclearance for the measure from the U.S. Department of Justice.

Governor Sonny Perdue Signs Georgia Power Bill

Gov. Sonny Perdue has a signed a bill that will hike electric bills for Georgia Power customers to pay for the construction of two nuclear reactors near Augusta. The new law allows Georgia Power to begin to collect some $1.6 billion in costs from ratepayers six years before the reactors go online.

Federal Court Upholds Gun Ban In Atlanta Airport

A federal appeals court has dismissed a Georgia gun group’s lawsuit seeking to allow firearms in parts of the world’s busiest airport. The group GeorgiaCarry.org sued after the city of Atlanta and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport banned guns from even unsecured areas in the terminals.
