GA Man Gets Life For Crossbow Killing

A Georgia man was sentenced to life in prison after a jury convicted him of fatally shooting his mother in the back with a crossbow while she slept. A Barrow County jury found 40-year-old Rodney George Thompson guilty Thursday of felony murder and aggravated assault for shooting his 63-year-old mother Marjorie Lynch in her home in June 2008.

UPDATED: SC Sheriff Says Deputies Searching For Killer Of 5

A South Carolina sheriff says deputies are searching to find the man they believe has killed five people in a week. Cherokee County Sheriff Bill Blanton told ABC’s “Good Morning America” on Monday that the three separate shootings are linked through evidence. WJBF News Channel 6 has learned that the South Carolina State Law Enforcement Division is investigating a police-involved shooting in Gastonia, NC where a suspect was killed to see if there are any links to the Cherokee County serial killings. Recent Homicide Ruled Out; Funerals For Victims Begin Sunday

Funerals begin Sunday in Cherokee County for victims of the serial killer. Hazel Linder and Gena Parker’s funerals will be held at 4 p.m., at First Baptist Church of Gaffney. There will be a visitation before the funeral beginning at 2 p.m.

Another Body Found In Cherokee County, Police Say Not Related to Serial Killings

Another person has been found dead in Cherokee County. According to crews at the scene, a person’s body was found on the corner of North Petty St. and E. Robinson Street in the city of Gaffney late Saturday night. Authorities say he was found on the sidewalk by a passerby.

NC Man Dead, 1 Charged In SC Vacation Home Killing

Police say they learned about a man shot to death at a South Carolina vacation home after another man came to the station and confessed to the killing. Multiple media outlets reported 57-year-old Thomas Shipplett of Ash, N.C., turned himself into North Myrtle Beach police Tuesday night.

SC Judge Considers Penalty For Man Who Killed Baby

A South Carolina judge this week will consider whether to sentence a man to die for killing his infant daughter more than eight years ago. The State reported Monday that the South Carolina Supreme Court two years ago overturned the death sentence given 28-year-old Clinton Robert Northcutt of Lexington County.

Funeral Set For Georgia Boy Killed In Shooting

Funeral plans for a 6-year-old who police say was killed by his grandfather have been set. Family and friends will gather at Ginn Funeral Home in Carnesville on Thursday at 2 p.m. to bury Michael Levigne. Visitation is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The man charged with murdering a high-profile abortion doctor claims that similar violence is planned for as long as the procedure remains legal. Scott Roeder phoned The Associated Press from the Sedgwick County jail in Kansas, where he’s being held on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated assault in the shooting of Dr. George Tiller at Tiller’s church last Sunday.

A medical student accused in Boston of killing a masseuse he met on Craigslist has been charged in Rhode Island with assaulting a stripper in a hotel. Rhode Island Attorney General Patrick Lynch announced the arrest warrant Monday for Philip Markoff on assault and weapons counts.

Defense Expert To Testify For Clemson Student’s Killer

A defense witness is being called for a Tennessee man who confessed to raping and killing a South Carolina college student nearly three years ago. Circuit Judge Edward Miller ordered lawyers for Jerry Buck Inman to have social worker Marti Loring of Atlanta testify Wednesday, as the judge decides if Inman should die for his crimes.

Source: Craigslist Killing Suspect Had Items From Victims

A Boston University medical student accused of robbing women who advertised erotic services on Craigslist, killing one of them, had items belonging to both victims in his apartment, a law enforcement source said Wednesday. Philip Markoff is charged with killing a masseuse at the Marriott Copley Place hotel April 14. He is also charged in the robbery of another woman who he allegedly met at another Boston hotel four days earlier.

Horry County police say they have made three arrests in a South Carolina killing more than seven years ago. Investigators say they found new evidence earlier this year when they began looking at the 2001 shooting death of Tracy Jordan.
