CSRA’s July Unemployment Rate Rises To 11.1 Percent
The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) reported Friday that the preliminary unadjusted unemployment rate in the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA) rose to 11.1 percent in July, up four-tenths of one percentage point from a revised 10.7 percent in June.
Metro Augusta’s July Unemployment Rate Unchanged At 10.2 Percent
The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) reported Friday that the preliminary unadjusted unemployment rate in the metro Augusta area was unchanged at 10.2 percent from June to July.

Millen Plant Leaving Could Mean Devastation For City
Some jobs are hanging by a thread in a local community. One of the oldest continuously run mobile home factories could be closing. All of this is happening at Cavalier Homes in Millen, Georgia. That’s in Jenkins County. The plant is being bought out, and now some heavy rumors are spreading that it could be closing its doors on the more than 100 who work there. WJBF News Channel 6’s Barclay Bishop picks up the story.

One of Georgia’s oldest factories has closed its doors, in Millen, Georgia. But, everyone from employees to the Mayor aren’t sure if it’s just a temporary shutdown, or the real deal. Cavalier Homes employees about 200 people, and many say they were turned away.

Battery Company To Open Plant In Aiken
Celgard, a developer of materials for use in lithium-ion batteries, is one of the big winners among firms selected to receive $2.4 billion in grants from the U.S. Department of Energy. Celgard, which operates a manufacturing facility in Charlotte, will receive $49 million to be used for expansion of its batter separator product. The company also will open a plant in Aiken, S.C.

Carbon Motors Selects Connersville, Indiana For New Police Car Plant
According to a release on Carbon Motors’ website, on Wednesday, Carbon Motors Corporation, a new homeland security company, announced at “A Rally for American Jobs” that the State of Indiana, Fayette County, and the City of Connersville would be its new home.
