As many as 8,000 jobs may come to Orangeburg, SC area.

Augusta’s Recreation and Parks Department is proposing shutting down eight of its operations to cut more than $700,000 from its budget. But, to find the savings, parks will close and jobs could be lost.

One local county is expected to see an economic boost. Tuesday, Barnwell County officials announced that new jobs would be coming to area. Some living in the county say, with other jobs downsizing and leaving, this announcement it’s a step in the right direction. Count on our Fraendy Clervaud…he has the story.

South Carolina’s unemployment rate dropped last month, 7.3 percent, but, it turns out, it was apparently not because more people found work. They just gave up and quit looking… according to the state Employment Security Commission. Some good economic news for Barnwell County. Zinc producer, Horsehead Corporation, says it’s going to bring an $87 million recycling plant there.
