They Fought For Their Country, Now They’re Fighting For Jobs
As we honor our veterans on Wednesday, we’re also faced with a grim reality that many of them…are unemployed. The Aiken County employment office sees as many as 350 vets a month, looking for a job. We spoke with an Iraqi veteran, on her way to Afghanistan, injured, and then left standing in the unemployment line. WJBF News Channel 6’s Joy Howe has the story.

Kia To Take More Job Applications For GA Plant
Kia Motors says it will reopen the application process for production and maintenance jobs at its new assembly plant in West Point. The South Korean automobile manufacturer has hired 1,200 employees for the plant, where full production of the Kia Sorento is expected to begin later this month. A second production line is planned for early next year.
Stimulus saved, created 16K education jobs in Georgia
A new federal report shows that more than 16,000 Georgia education jobs were saved or created through stimulus funding.

Boeing’s Job Impact Should In South Carolina Start in Just Weeks
Boeing is planning to have its new 787 Dreamliner production plant running in South Carolina in 2011, but state Commerce Secretary Joe Taylor says the plant will start having an effect on the state’s job situation in a matter of weeks, because Boeing plans to break ground in November. New unemployment numbers have been released for the CSRA. The rate was unchanged at 10.2 percent from August to September.

Medical Equipment Company Bringing Jobs To McDuffie County
A company that produces and sells medical equipment is getting ready to open up in Thomson. Reliant Medical is based out of Florida. Company officials have built a warehouse at the Thomson Industrial Park. Workers at the warehouse will build refurbished MRI equipment for doctors and hospitals.
23 States Report Higher Unemployment In September
Unemployment rates rose last month in 23 states and fell in 19 as the economy struggled to create jobs in the early stages of recovery. The Labor Department says Nevada, Rhode Island and Florida in September posted their highest jobless rates on records dating to 1976.

Georgia Unemployment Stays Flat
Georgia’s unemployment rate for September was 10.1 percent, the same as the month before. The Georgia Department of Labor said Thursday it’s the 23rd consecutive month that Georgia’s unemployment rate is higher than the national rate.

GA Unemployment Claims Rise From Year Earlier
The Georgia Department of Labor says first-time claims for state unemployment insurance benefits jumped by more than 17 percent in September from a year ago, but fell from the August figure.

Diaper Manufacturer Bringing 260 Jobs To SC
Officials say a manufacturer of disposable baby diapers is moving into a former South Carolina textile plant, creating 260 jobs in a rural county suffering from high unemployment.
