Voting is underway in Tuesday’s Senate runoff in Georgia. The race between Republican Senator Saxby Chambliss and Democrat challenger Jim Martin could decide whether Democrats get a 60-vote super majority in the U.S. Senate. Neither candidate got the required 50% plus one in last month’s election. But, what kind of interest has the runoff generated? Election officials say voter turnout was expected to be light. WJBF News Channel 6’s Renita Crawford was out and about to gauge the turnout.

Polling precincts around Georgia have closed after reporting a light turnout and few problems. Thousands of Georgia voters cast their ballots to decide the runoff between U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss and Democrat Jim Martin.

Sarah Palin Stumps For Saxby Chambliss In Augusta

Georgia’s hotly contested U.S. Senate runoff campaign is almost over. Incumbent Saxby Chambliss and challenger, Jim Martin, have been fighting tooth and nail for Chambliss’ seat. Both candidates were in the Garden City this morning, trying to drum up support in the campaign’s final hours. Senator Chambliss brought a political heavy hitter with him. Alaska Governor Sarah Palin attended a Chambliss rally at the James Brown Arena, and Jim Martin atended a rally at Augusta’s Democratic headquarters. WJBF News Channel 6’s Paige Tucker has the story.

Obama produces radio ad for GA senate candidate

President-elect Barack Obama has weighed in on Georgia’s U.S. Senate runoff, cutting a radio ad supporting Democrat Jim Martin.  In the spot, Obama thanks Georgians who voted for him Nov. 4. He adds, “The elections aren’t over” and urges voters to return to the polls Dec. 2 and cast ballots for Martin.

Georgia Begins Early Voting For December 2nd Runoff

Early voting is under way in most counties in Georgia. Voters will cast ballots beginning Monday in the runoff for the U.S. Senate race between Republican Saxby Chambliss and Democratic challenger Jim Martin.

Huckabee leads Chambliss rally

Chants of “Huck-a-bee” greeted former Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee as he led a rally for the “fair tax” in Georgia aimed at helping Sen. Saxby Chambliss in his runoff bid.  Several thousand Georgians crowded into the Gwinnett Center Sunday afternoon for a raucous event that also featured radio talk show host Neal Boortz, one the most vocal boosters of the “fair tax.“
