A South Carolina judge has denied a request to reconsider a court-approved settlement agreement over how to parcel out James Brown’s wealth. Law clerk Carra Henderson said Judge Jack Early ruled Tuesday that his previous decision approving the settlement would stand, but hasn’t filed an official order.

He’s been in the Garden City before. In 2006, Michael Jackson came to Augusta, to attend the funeral of James Brown. The King of Pop, paying respect to the Godfather of Soul. After years of arguments, a South Carolina judge has approved a settlement for the estate of late soul singer James Brown that gives nearly half of it to his charitable trust, about a quarter to his wife and young son and the rest to Brown’s adult children.

After years of arguments, a South Carolina judge has approved a settlement for the estate of late soul singer James Brown that gives nearly half of it to his charitable trust, about a quarter to his wife and young son and the rest to Brown’s adult children.

It was big news in the James Brown estate case, when the word “settlement” got passed around, last month. A proposal that was presented to the court suggested 50% of Brown’s estate go to his widow, Tommie Rae Hynie Brown, 25% to the trust Brown set up, and the other 25% be split up among Brown’s adult children. But, once again, things aren’t going smoothly. WJBF News Channel 6’s Joy Howe spoke with one woman who says she has James Brown on tape, saying exactly what he wants done with his money, and she says this proposed settlement…isn’t it.
