Historic Augusta Neighborhood: Will They Come if They Rebuild It?

Augusta is planning a major redevelopment of the city’s historic inner city neighborhoods. Along with the new trade center, the revitalization project will use money from a dollar a night hotel room fee as a source of funding. Feds say tax refund scheme totalled $630,000

Federal authorities accuse a Florida man of using identities of prison inmates to create phony income tax documents and file for more than $630,000 in refunds.  Officials say 44-year-old Anthony Davila of Tampa is named in a 34-count federal indictment unsealed this week after his arrest in
Florida.

Stimulus For Small Businesses May Be in the Works

President Obama has unveiled a plan to help small businesses. The nation’s 21 largest banks receiving bailout money must report on how much they lend to small businesses, each month. All other banks are asked to give quarterly reports on small business loans. The Obama administration goes even further to ask banks that are not getting funds to increase small business lending. So, what does the President’s plan mean for small businesses here in the Two-State? From Wall Street to your Wallet, WJBF News Channel 6’s Fraendy Clervaud spoke to some local business owners who say the President’s plan is a step in the right direction.

Aiken Woman Pleads Guilty to Stealing $300,000 From Boss

An Aiken woman was sentenced to four years in jail after pleading guilty to taking more than $300,000 from her employer. Wednesday, Elizabeth Darby Copeland stood in court and tearfully offered her apologies to the people she said were like a second set of parents. WJBF News Channel 6’s Joy Howe has the story.
