Afghan Policy Discussed On 8-Year Anniversary Of War On Terror

Eight years ago, Wednesday, U.S. forces went on the offensive against the Taliban, in Afghanistan…the first front in the war on terror after the 9/11 attacks. Wednesday, President Barack Obama will meet with his national security team in a broad review of Afghan policy, with big decisions ahead. ABC News’ T.J. Winick has more.

Taliban Say They’re No Threat To Other Countries

Afghanistan’s insurgent Taliban have used the eight anniversary of the U.S. invasion to say they have no goal of harming foreign forces but are prepared to fight a prolonged war.

Report: General Calls For More Afghanistan Troops

Gen. Stanley McChrystal, the top U.S. and NATO commander in Afghanistan, says in a confidential report that without additional forces, the war against insurgents will end in failure, The Washington Post reported Monday.

Wave Of Baghdad Blasts Kills At Least 86

Iraqi officials have raised the death toll in a wave of bombings in Baghdad to at least 86 with more than 300 wounded. It is the deadliest toll this year for what appeared to be a coordinated attack.

Family Gets Dog That Worked With Son Killed In Iraq

A Mississippi family lost their son, and brother in Iraq in March of 2007. U.S. Marine Corporal Dustin Lee and his bomb-sniffing German sherpherd, Lex, were caught up in an insurgent grenade attack in Iraq’s Anbar Province. Corporal Lee die in the attack, and his gravely-injured trusty dog stayed with his body until medics arrived. Now Corporal Lee’s family has adopted their son’s partner.
