Augusta Early Retirement Could Still Help Budget
Some Augusta Commissioners say now is not to time to encourage more Augusta workers to get off the payroll, and into retirement. The city is being forced to make a more than $1 million contribution to its pension funds because they are considered underfunded. Retailers in Manning say a city council plan to give close to $1 million to a big-box home improvement store will hurt them. Officials say a new Lowe’s Cos. home improvement store will bring 75 full-time jobs and 25 part-time jobs to the area.
