According to Lt. Robert Partain, a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office (RCSO) traffic officer, around 9:15 a.m., Monday morning, stopped a Nissan Maxima on I-20 with South Carolina license plates for speeding in the construction zone. The car’s driver, Jorge Alberto Valladares, of Duluth, Georgia was arrested after 4 kilograms of cocaine were found in the vehicle.

Some are going by land, others by air, and some are staying put. Many say the economy is what’s keeping them close to home, and say the only thing they plan to spend this holiday…is time with family. Count on Joy Howe for the story.

According to Richmond County’ Chief Deputy Coroner, Mark Bowen, one person is dead after an overnight accident on I-20, at mile marker 201, in Augusta. The accident occurred around 1:19 a.m., Thursday night.

According to a release, Team United, the contractor building phase 2 of the Palmetto Parkway, reminds all motorists that there will be intermittent lane closures during the daylight hours on US Highway 25, in the vicinity of Interstate 20, over the next two weeks. All motorists should be aware of this potential for delays and seek alternative routes when available.

Eastbound traffic on I-20 will be shifted, beginning at Belair Road, and continuing to west of Bobby Jones Expressway. The shift will remain until this weekend.

Traffic is moving again on I-20, in Aiken County…The westbound lanes between mile markers 6 and 7 were shut down around 9:00 p.m., Wednesday night, and remained closed for 10 hours, after a deadly three vehicle accident. The Aiken County Coroner, Tim Carlton, has identified the victim as Jose Hector Gonzales-Hernandez, 31, of North Charleston, SC.

An accident on I-20 has claimed the life of one person. The South Carolina Highway Patrol says that the crash happened around nine Wednesday night. Three vehicles were involved, including a tractor trailer and a box truck.

Work on the Palmetto Parkway project continues in South Carolina, and over the next several months, there will be lane shifts and closures on US Highway 25….and that could mean some traffic issues.
