SC “Statehouse Coverup” To Fix State Christmas Tree
The South Carolina state Christmas tree is up now in front of the Statehouse, and once again, it appears there are problems with the tree. People walking by the tree on Monday complained that it’s much shorter than previous trees, and it also has big bare spots around the base. But, the volunteers who bought the tree and decorate it say, not to worry. WJBF News Channel 6’s SC Capitol reporter, Robert Kittle tells us what happened…and how it’ll be fixed.

Man Pleads Guilty, Fined $732 In Horry County Wildfire
A man fined for starting a fire several days before the most destructive wildfire in South Carolina history has pleaded guilty and will pay $732. Marc Torchi, of Conway, admitted to not notifying officials of a burn and allowing a fire on his land to spread to the property of a neighbor. But he and his attorney, Paul Taylor, said he is not responsible for the larger wildfire that destroyed 76 homes and damaged nearly 100 others on South Carolina’s Grand Strand in April.

A Longs man is in jail after Horry County police say he was caught on surveillance cameras having sex with a horse. According to a police report, Rodell Vereen 50, was arrested for the second time in three years for buggery and trespassing at Lazy B Stables on Coates Road.

SC Inmate Recaptured After Walking Off Job
A South Carolina inmate who walked away from his job at a poultry plant in Dillon has been recaptured. The Corrections Department said 41-year-old James McCracken was captured around 1:40 a.m. Wednesday while hiding under a bridge near Galivants Ferry. They say McCracken left the Perdue Farms plant Tuesday afternoon.

South Carolina residents who were forced from their homes by a wildfire want to know why it took officials so long to warn them. The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reported Sunday that homeowners are asking why officials were caught by surprise by fires which had been raging for a day, and why they gave residents just minutes to evacuate.

Smaller Crowds, Fewer Vendors Attend SC Bike Rally
Officials say a smaller crowd showed up for a South Carolina bike rally and fewer vendors lined the streets of Atlantic Beach to sell merchandise. Town Manager Kenneth McIver told The Sun News of Myrtle Beach that at least 175,000 people attended the Atlantic Beach Bikefest, which ended Monday. In past years, crowds of up to 400,000 people attended.
