UPDATED: Equipment Falls Off Tractor-Trailor, Kills Motorist In Edgefield County

In Edgefield County, a tractor-trailer traveling on Highway 25 went under a train tressel, but the equipment he was carrying didn’t make it. The equipment struck the tressel and flipped back onto a small pickup truck, killing the driver instantly. UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 27-year-old Jeremy Jay.

Bridge Construction Will Cause Lane Closures On Interstate 20

In an e-mail to WJBF News Channel 6, Team United, the contractor constructing phase 2 of the Palmetto Parkway (I-520) in North Augusta, is proceeding with the replacement of U.S. Highway 25 bridge over I-20 at exit 5. The contractor will be setting the new beams across westbound I-20 the week of June 8th. This work will be done at night and will require closing a section of I-20.

According to Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton, at approximately 11:43 p.m. on May 22, 2009 a pedestrian was struck and killed by a vehicle near the intersection of Highway 25 north and Sweetwater Road, in Aiken County.

Investigators: Cell Phone Tower Thieves Sending Bad Signal

Edgefield investigators say they’re dealing with thieves who are targeting cell phone towers. Officers say thieves are stealing copper ground wiring, which helps protect the towers from the effects of lighting. Cell phone officials say if the tower is unprotected and struck by lightning, it could knock out. WJBF News Channel 6’s Joy Howe explains how this could cost you.
