Lawmakers sharply criticized the Department of Veterans Affairs on Tuesday about why a national scare over botched colonoscopies earlier this year didn’t prompt stronger safeguards at the agency’s medical centers. House Veterans Affairs Committee Chairman Bob Filner said VA Secretary Eric Shinseki has pledged to take disciplinary action over the matter.

SC Man Facing Maserati Murder Expected In Court
A South Carolina man charged with murder after police say he lost control of his speeding Maserati, plowing into a house and killing a man, is expected to appear in court. Pam Larson of the Greenville City Court Clerk’s Office says 36-year-old John Ludwig Jr. is to have hearing Wednesday afternoon on a possible bond violation.

Woman In Abduction Hoax Waives Extradition Hearing
A woman accused in an abduction hoax that began near Philadelphia and ended at Walt Disney World will be sent back to Pennsylvania to face charges. Bonnie Sweeten waived her extradition rights during a hearing in Orlando, Fla., Friday that lasted less than a minute.
