Georgia Unemployment Stays Flat
Georgia’s unemployment rate for September was 10.1 percent, the same as the month before. The Georgia Department of Labor said Thursday it’s the 23rd consecutive month that Georgia’s unemployment rate is higher than the national rate.

The Georgia Department of Labor (GDOL) reported Thursday that the preliminary unadjusted unemployment rate in the metro Augusta area declined to 9.5 percent in August, down six-tenths of one percentage point from a revised 10.1 percent in July. The reduction in the rate is primarily due to work force shrinkage.

Extended Unemployment Checks In The Mail
State labor department officials are mailing the first of the checks Thursday. The extension provides for up to 20 weeks of additional benefits to individuals who exhausted regular unemployment insurance and the first and second tier of Emergency Unemployment Compensation benefits on or after Feb. 15.
