An Athens-based agency that helps battered women says a University of Georgia professor’s April 25 shooting of his wife, two others and himself has increased the number of women reaching out for help. Project Safe’s hotlines received about 116 calls a month in 2008 and through this April.

The family of the former University of Georgia professor accused of fatally shooting his wife and two others hasn’t claimed his body. Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman John Bankhead said George Zinkhan’s body is in a cooler at the agency’s medical examiner’s office in Decatur.

Athens Theater Group Vows Comeback After Shootings

An Athens community theater troupe is vowing a return to the stage this summer after three of its members were fatally shot by a University of Georgia professor last month. The Town & Gown Players said in a statement Wednesday their schedule will resume July 10 with a production of Neil Simon’s “Fools.“

Officials have confirmed a body found in the north Georgia woods is that of a professor wanted for killing his wife and two other people at a community theater two weeks ago. Officials say the Georgia Bureau of Investigation crime lab confirmed Saturday that the body is 57-year-old University of Georgia marketing professor George Zinkhan.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, two revised sketches of UGA shooting suspect George Zinkhan may make it easier to spot him even if he has shaved off his hair or beard, said the Georgia Bureau of Investigation artist who developed the different looks for Athens police investigators.

Police: UGA Professor’s Passport Found In Jeep

Athens-Clarke County police say they’ve found the passport of a University of Georgia professor suspected of killing his wife and two others outside a community theater. Capt. Clarence Holeman confirmed Monday that the passport of George Zinkhan was found inside the wrecked Jeep uncovered in a ravine a few miles from his home Friday. Authorities say the marketing professor never showed up Saturday for a flight he had scheduled to Amsterdam prior to the April 25 shootings.

Accused UGA Killer’s Jeep Found, Alert Issued

Police say they’ve found a vehicle that belongs to a former University of Georgia professor suspected of killing his wife and two other people outside a community theater last week. Athens-Clarke County Police said Friday morning that they found George Zinkhan’s vehicle overnight in the northwestern part of Clarke County, the same county where the university is located.

Athens Shooting Victim’s Funeral Held In Augusta On Thursday

In a WJBF News Channel 6 Crime Tracker Report, funeral services were held Thursday for Marie Bruce. Bruce was one of three people shot to death in Athens, last Saturday. Her husband, a professor at UGA, is believed to be the killer. WJBF News Channel 6’s Fraendy Clervaud was at the funeral and has more.

Funerals Set For Athens, GA Shooting Victims

Funeral arrangements have been set for the three victims of Saturday’s shootings in Athens. A service for 47-year-old Marie Bruce is planned for 11 a.m. Thursday at Warren Baptist Church in Augusta, followed by burial in Westover Memorial Park. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening at Platt’s Funeral Home in Augusta.
