The calendar says it’s the beginning of August, but fall is coming to South Carolina and Clemson. Both the Gamecocks and Tigers hold their first football practices Tuesday night.

Hospital: USC Equestrian Team Member Improving After Horse Spill
A 20-year-old collegian who suffered a life-threatening head injury at a Vermont horse show is showing signs of improvement in an Albany, New York, hospital. Victoria Middleton, of Marietta, Georgia, was hurt Friday at the Vermont Summer Festival horse show in East Dorset when her horse got spooked and Middleton was knocked to the ground.

A member of the University of South Carolina equestrian team has been critically injured in an accident at a stable in Vermont. The school says junior Victoria Middleton was hit in the head with a rail over the weekend when the horse she was bathing got scared and broke the fencing in Bennington, Vt.

South Carolina Football Brings In Trainer
South Carolina named Clint Haggard its head football athletic trainer. The school made the announcement Wednesday with Haggard starting his duties on Monday. Most recently, Haggard was a former assistant athletic director and head trainer at Rice.
