It also pays benefits to some workers who quit their jobs voluntarily. Nearly one quarter of workers filing for unemployment benefits in South Carolina were fired for misconduct. There are more charges against a Charlotte, North Carolina man accused of travelling to Aiken to have sex with a 12-year-old girl. Aiken County Sheriff’s Office investigators have now charged Sampson Nimmo with giving the girl marijuana, and having oral sex with her.

The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office deputy who was handling the Sanford Nimmo child sex case investigation is out of a job. Mark Patterson is charged with unlawful use of a telephone.

A Charlotte, North Carolina man is in jail in Aiken. He’s accused of coming to Aiken County to have sex with a 12-year-old girl he met online. A South Carolina beach town that has struggled with its finances in recent years has fired its town manager. The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reports that Atlantic Beach Town Council voted 3-1 on Thursday to fire Kenneth McIver.

The Clearwater Fire Department continues to answer calls, despite losing its chief and two others. Chief Mike Toole was fired by the Clearwater Water Commisioner. Earlier this week, Toole turned himself in, after a two-year old warrant for a misdemeaner surfaced at the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

A former Juvenile Justice Department official has sued the agency, saying she was fired recently for talking about its problems. The State reported Tuesday that Carol Seawright is seeking $5 million in actual damages and unspecified punitive damages in the federal lawsuit against the department and several officials.

News of Gov. Mark Sanford’s request that four commissioners at the Department of Disabilities and Special Needs resign didn’t surprise the commissioners.
