We have the latest information on an afternoon fire in Aiken…Wednesday, it was Richmond County, Thursday…Aiken had their own massive fire to deal with. WJBF News Channel 6’s Barclay Bishop has been on the scene all evening, and she has more.

UPDATED: Fort Gordon Fire Forces People Out of Homes
If you were driving just about anywhere in the Augusta area, you couldn’t help but see the smoke in the air from the huge brush fire. Investigators say it started on Fort Gordon, then made it’s way off base. It lasted for hours…but how it started is something investigators still aren’t too sure of. WJBF News Channel 6’s Barclay Bishop has more.
UPDATED: Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office Car Crashes, Burns
According to EdgefieldDaily.com, an Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office Deputy responding to a call of a wreck on Republican Road lost control of his patrol car, hit an embankment, and reportedly was ejected from the car as it burst into flames. An ambulance responding to the first wreck happened upon the deputy lying on the side of the road and began treating him for his injuries. UPDATE: The deputy has now been released from MCG and is resting at home.
UPDATED: Fort Gordon Brush Fire Extinguished
WJBF News Channel 6 can confirm that a Fort Gordon brush fire, near the border on post at the reservoir, is 80-percent under control. Heavy smoke still covers much of the overhead sky. And WJBF has learned some some people were being evacuated from Belfair Estates. WJBF has a crew on scene and will update as information comes in. DA: NY Mom’s Voodoo Ring Of Fire Burns Daughter, 6
A New York City woman has been accused of burning her 6-year-old daughter during a voodoo ritual and then ignoring her cries for help and sending her to bed. Prosecutors say Marie Lauradin poured an accelerant over her daughter during a Haitian practice known as Loa and made her stand naked in a ring of fire, engulfing her in flames.

Aiken County Sheriff’s Office Investigates Suspicious Fire in Graniteville
The Aiken County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an early morning fire, in which there was moderate damage, to the “Genco” warehouse, a subcontractor of Kimberly Clark, at 1043 Global Ave., Graniteville, South Carolina.

Imperial Sugar Restarts Savannah, GA Refinery
Imperial Sugar has restarted its Georgia refinery to resume making crystal sugar for the first time since a deadly 2008 explosion devastated the plant near Savannah. Employees fired up the boiler at the nation’s second-largest sugar refinery Tuesday morning and planned to start shipping liquid sugar by Thursday. The first truckloads of crystal sugar are to follow within the next 10 days.

BREAKING NEWS: Arrest Made In MCG Assault
According to Lt. Scott Peebles, on Thursday afternoon, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has filed charges against 28-year-old Roger Antonio Bettis, of North Augusta, in reference to the June 3rd assault of a 63-year-old woman at MCG Hospital.

Memorial Planned For Anniversary Of Deadly SC Furniture Store Fire
The Post and Courier of Charleston reported Wednesday that the site of the deadly furniture store blaze will be open June 18 for people wanting to pay respects to the fallen firefighters. Fire department spokesman Mark Ruppel says planners decided on a more muted memorial after speaking with firefighters and the families of the victims.

UPDATED: Suspect Hospitalized After Crashing Stolen Car Into Budget Inn, Causing Fire
Richmond County Firefighters responded to a fire near the Budget Inn, located on 441 Broad Street, around 10:00 p.m., Sunday night. Richmond County Sheriff’s Office investigators say the fire was caused when a suspect crashed a stolen car into the building.
Residents Ask Why Horry County Fire Warnings Took So Long
South Carolina residents who were forced from their homes by a wildfire want to know why it took officials so long to warn them. The Sun News of Myrtle Beach reported Sunday that homeowners are asking why officials were caught by surprise by fires which had been raging for a day, and why they gave residents just minutes to evacuate.

UPDATED: Popular McDuffie County Restaurant Destroyed by Fire, Ruled Accidental
One of McDduffie County’s most popular restaurants was severely damaged by fire. Our news partner, “The McDuffie Mirror” shares this report with WJBF News Channel 6. It’s the Raysville Bait and Tackle and Bob’s Cafe on Lincolnton Highway. According to Donna Branch, News Director for WTHO-FM, the fire has been ruled accidental.

SC State Trooper Dies In House Overnight Fire
In an e-mail to WJBF News Channel 6, the South Carolina Highway Patrol (SCHP) announces that a trooper has died overnight in a house fire at his residence. Senior Trooper Andrew C. McInville, 26, died around 1 a.m. after a fire at his Timmonsville, SC home, located on Country Lane Road.

9 Gainesville School Buses Destroyed By Fire
An early morning fire at the Gainesville School System’s bus shop has destroyed nine buses. Glenn Allen, spokesman for the Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner’s office, reported the additional bus burned.
