An 8-year-old boy and an aunt and uncle have drowned in a swimming pool in western South Carolina. Multiple media outlets reported the adults jumped into the pool at a horse farm near Easley to try to rescue the boy Monday afternoon.

The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, along with the National Park Service, has designated this week as Rip Current Awareness Week. Rip currents claim more than 100 lives in the United States and cause more than 80 percent of beach rescues each year.
