U.S. DOT Holds Summit On Dangers Of Texting While Driving

The government is now trying to get the word out that any cell phone use while behind the wheel can be extremly dangerous. In Washington, the Transportation Department is so worried about drivers who don’t keep their minds on driving, that they’re holding a summit meeting about it. Distracted Drivers reportedly cause thousands of traffic deaths a year. ABC News’ T.J. Winick has more.

Why Were Amber Alert Signs So Vague?

You may have seen the highway signs Tuesday morning…giving an Amber Alert. Those signs were activated statewide Tuesday morning, to let anyone on South Carolina roads know that a child was missing. But, the signs did not give you any idea what was going on…or what to look for. Why did Amber Alert signs give no details…saying only “tune to local media”? From Wall Street to your Wallet…many see “Cash For Clunkers” as a highly successful program, taking thousands of gas guzzlers off the roads. In all, the program replaced nearly 700,000 clunkers with new fuel-efficient vehicles.

UPDATED: Government Extends Deadline For Clunkers Paperwork

Auto dealers will get more time to submit their Cash for Clunkers deals to the government for repayment after the Department of Transportation extended the deadline for filing claims. Dealers will now have until noon Tuesday to file the paperwork they need to get repaid for the Cash for Clunkers credits of up to $4,500.
