SC Governor Mark Sanford Has $1.7 Million in Campaign Money, Can Use For Legal Bills
Governor Mark Sanford has $1.7 million left in campaign money… and he plans to use some of it to pay his legal bills. He’s being investigated by the South Carolina Ethics Commission for his travel and use of state planes. Some of his contributors are upset, but WJBF News Channel 6’s SC Capitol reporter, Robert Kittle, tells us why Governor Sanford, and any other candidate, can use campaign money for legal fees.

New Partnership Sends Donations Directly to South Carolina Classrooms
South Carolina is now the first in the nation to have a partnership that allows citizens to donate money directly to specific public schools, even specific classes. State education superintendent Jim Rex, and Trip DuBard, executive director of Palmetto Horizon, announced the partnership Monday at a middle school in Columbia that has already taken advantage of the program. Backpack Buddy Bag Donation Drive Held At North Augusta Wal-Mart Wednesday
After disaster happened to a couple North Augusta teens, they stepped up to create their own relief project called “Backpack Buddy Bags.“ The bags are filled with the basics and even some comfort items…like a Care Bear. Cuts At SC Department Of Consumer Affairs Will Slow Response To Residents’ Complaints
It was a busy day at the South Carolina Department of Consumer Affairs Thursday. The agency sponsored a “shred day”, when consumers could bring in any personal documents they had and get them shredded for free. ‘Paste’ Magazine Raises $250,000 In Reader Donations
Music magazine ‘Paste’ is keeping its doors open for now. Editor-in-chief Josh Jackson said Wednesday that the suburban Atlanta-based monthly has raised more than $250,000 from 10,000 donors to help keep the magazine afloat. The magazine launched a “Save Paste” campaign last month after announcing it would have to shutter without help from readers.

At Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group, or PREG for short, Dr. John Payne says they’ve seen a 50 percent increase in the number of people applying online to donate eggs. That may be attributed to the tough economic times we’re now facing.

Goodwill Needs Your Donations to Replace Items Destroyed By Aiken Fire
Goodwill Industries’ Whiskey Road Emporium in Aiken suffered extensive damage during a fire, on Friday. Over 20,000 items of clothing and household items were damaged during the fire that broke out just before 7:00 p.m. The Aiken Department of Public Safety responded promptly to the call, and all Goodwill clients, employees and customers escaped safely before the first firefighter arrived. Goodwill is asking for donations to replace the items lost in the fire.
