Burke County Investigators Uncover a Dogfighting Ring

Authorities in Burke County uncovered a gruesome dogfighting ring. One person was arrested and investigators are still looking for more suspects. It all happened along the 1000 block of Scotts Store Road in Millen, Georgia. We have to warn you, the following story contains some very graphic pictures of the dogs and what was done to them. Some Seized Dogs See New Homes In Aiken County

The woman whose dogs attacked a young Augusta boy, last week, is surrendering some of them. Animal Control officers in Aiken and Augusta took 19 of her dogs Thursday, but she still has more. Count on WJBF News Channel 6’s Joy Howe for more on the story.

UPDATE: Mother Arrested in Case of Toddler Attacked By Dogs

There are new developments in the case of the 2-year-old attacked by several dogs. WJBF News Channel 6’s Barclay Bishop has more.

Owner of Dogs in Attack in Augusta Charged in Aiken County, SC

A Richmond County child’s mother is charged with child cruelty in a dog attack case. The dogs’ owner was in court in South Carolina for separate animal violations. WJBF News Channel 6’s Paige Tucker sorts it all out.

DEVELOPING: Mother Of 2-Year-Old Dog Bite Victim Arrested, Dog Owner In Court

According to Lt. Scott Peebles, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, at about 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 14, arrested Jessica Lynn Chavous on a charge of Cruelty to Children in the 2nd Degree. Chavous was committed to the Richmond County Jail on no bond. The charge stemmed from a July 10th dog attack that occurred at Chavous’ home, on the 3600 block of Belair Road, in Augusta, when her unattended 2-year-old climbed into the back yard of a neighboring residence. Chavous’ son, Damien, remains in critical condition at a local hospital. WJBF News Channel 6 has learned the owner of the dogs involved in the attack, Shirley Barnes, is in court in Aiken County.

South Carolina authorities have charged a mother and her son with mistreatment to animals after two dogs were found dead in their sport utility vehicle and four others were discovered in poor health.

Reward Offered In Attack on Martinez Family’s Dogs

According to a release from Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Captain Steve Morris, the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is offering a reward up to $2,500 for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for viciously killing a family’s yellow lab and severely injuring their other dog, a dachshund mix. The reward is offered in addition to a $5,000 reward offered by the Fayetteville based Holland M. Ware Charitable Foundation, bringing the total reward available to $7,500.
