A Richmond County Sheriff’s Office deputy has been suspended. Sheriff Ronnie Strength tells WJBF News Channel 6 the deputy is accused of taking money from a suspect in exchange for not charging that suspect with illegal gun possession.

In a WJBF News Channel 6 Crime Tracker report, a former Richmond County Sheriff’s Office deputy is off the job and behind bars. This comes after an incident at a local nightclub, where the Sheriff says the deputy used excessive force. Bryan Johnson was arrested Monday.

A former Richmond County sheriff’s deputy found not guilty of child molestation less than three weeks ago has been killed in an automobile accident. Richmond County Deputy Coroner Johnny McDonald said 49-year-old Lindon Haworth Jr.‘s car drifted into the left hand lane and struck the side of another vehicle Sunday.

Back in September, dash cam video from Jeffery Nation’s patrol car caught him striking a New Ellenton teenager in the throat. Nation was fired from the Sheriff’s Office, shortly after the incident. An Aiken County Sheriff’s deputy was wounded and a suspect killed during an early-morning shootout in Aiken. A sheriff’s spokesman says the deputy’s injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into a shooting death, involving an officer, at a Wrightsboro Road fast food restaurant. It happened around 8:00. Monday evening, at the Captain D’s Seafood, located at 3166 Wrightsboro Road.  The GBI now reports that the suspect who was killed by the off-duty officer was carrying an air rifle or “BB gun.“  An autopsy is scheduled on the subject, who died last night.
