5th Officer-Involved Shooting For Richmond County Sheriff’s Office

UPDATED: Suspect Dead After Police-Involved Shooting In Augusta

Authorities in Richmond County are investigating a deadly shooting. UPDATE: The suspect has been identified as 30-year-old Michael Nestor. A press conference ened just before noon on Wednesday at the Richmond County Law Enforcement Center. Sheriff Ronnie Strength talked about the deadly shooting Tuesday night, involving several officers. WJBF News Channel 6’s Fraendy Clervaud reports.

Man Found Dead After Covington, GA Standoff, 2 Deputies Wounded

Newton County officials say two sheriff’s deputies have been hospitalized with wounds after a standoff with a man who was later found shot to death. Lt. Tyrone Oliver of the Newton County Sheriff’s Department says the deputies were shot on Monday when they approached the man’s home after receiving a call about a suicide threat.

Oklahoma Man Arrested, Charged In Deaths Of Two Deputies

More is being learned about an Oklahoma man charged with the shooting deaths of two Seminole County deputies. Ezekiel Holbert was wanted for trying to strangle his mother. The deputies were trying to arrest the 26-year-old for failing to make a court appearance on the domestic violence case, when they were killed.

UPDATED: FBI Search Warrant Served At Columbia County Home

Columbia County Sheriff’s Office deputies helped the FBI serve a search warrant Friday morning at a home on Evans-To-Lock Road. Authorities say the search was internet-related and may involve children. The person arrested at the home has been identified as Mike Adams. UPDATED: Officers Cleared In Cherry Tree Crossing Shooting

Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Deputies Michael Hodge and Jose Ortiz have been cleared in a December shooting that killed a 23-year-old suspect, Justin Elmore. Elmore was shot and killed by two deputies after he allegedly rammed their patrol cars during a traffic stop in the Cherry Tree Crossing neighborhood. We have the video of Hodge and Oortiz leaving the Richmond County Municipal Building shortly after testifying before the Richmond County Grand Jury. WJBF News Channel 6’s Renita Crawford has been covering this story since it broke, in December, and she was at the Municipal Building when word came down…and has more.

Four Richmond County Deputies will be better protected - thanks to a local company.  DSM Chemicals donated four life protection body armor vests to the Sheriff’s Office.  The company says the donation is a way to express thanks and support of local law enforcement. DSM manufactures “Dyneema” which it calls the world’s strongest fiber.

Ministers Meet With Local Leaders About Cherry Tree Crossing

A community is trying to pick up the pieces after a shooting turns deadly. 23-year-old Justin Elmore died Tuesday. He was shot by two investigators this weekend. The Sheriff says he tried to use his SUV as a weapon. Several residents were heated after learning about the shooting. The two deputies are on administrative leave until the investigation is completed. WJBF News Channel 6’s Barclay Bishop has more.

Civil Rights Group Demands Answers After Cherry Tree Crossing Shooting

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference marched through the Cherry Tree Crossing community to protest the shooting of Justin Elmore. It says Richmond County deputies overreacted and the group is demanding answers. The Sheriff say Elmore was a drug dealer and had drugs and weapons in his vehicle. Elmore more died Tuesday from his injuries. There have been several nights of unrest among residents following the shooting and Elmore’s passing. Cherry Tree Crossing Shooting Opens Memories Of Similar Incident

Ten years ago there was anger and outrage following the shooting of a man in south Augusta after a high speed chase. Deputies said Alfaigo Davis was using his car as a deadly weapon when they opened fire. A civil rights groups says there is a connection between Davis and the shooting Sunday in Cherry Tree Crossing.

The streets in an Augusta housing complex are calm. That was not the case less than 24 hours ago, when a near riot broke out in Augusta. Rumors flew following a police shooting, inciting the unrest. Richmond County Sheriff Ronnie Strength held a press briefing around 11:00 a.m., Monday morning. WJBF News Channel 6’s cameras were there at the press conference.
