According to Sgt. Dave Myers, On Tuesday August 4, 2009, the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office, in coordination with the Clearwater Village Apartments community, will be hosting the 2009 National Night Out, from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m., at the Clearwater Village Apartments.

The Clearwater Fire Department continues to answer calls, despite losing its chief and two others. Chief Mike Toole was fired by the Clearwater Water Commisioner. Earlier this week, Toole turned himself in, after a two-year old warrant for a misdemeaner surfaced at the Aiken County Sheriff’s Office.

The Clearwater Fire Department has been around for more than 50 years…and for 50 years, these guys have been strapping on their boots, risking their lives…for free. This is a strictly volunteer program, which means it’s harder to find money these days. With the economy in the state that is it, grants can come up short. Still, membership continues to soar at this Fire Department. WJBF News channel 6’s Joy Howe has more.
