Augusta’s Old Confederate Powderworks Restoration Underway
It’s History In The Re-Making. Renovations are now underway on the last remaining piece of the old Confederate powderworks, the 150-foot tall chimney located on the Augusta Canal.

Annual SC Ghost Walk Tells Stories Of Confederate Ghosts
As ghosts begin to lurk everywhere, an annual tradition takes visitors to a South Carolina city back to the Civil War era and the spirits from that period. The Confederate Ghost Walk is Friday and Saturday in Charleston’s Magnolia Cemetery and visitors can see vignettes about historic events related to those buried in the cemetery.

SC Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum Breaks Attendance Record Despite Bad Economy
The Confederate Relic Room and Military Museum has a lot more to it than just artifacts from the Confederacy. And it’s also doing a lot more with a lot less, setting an attendance record for the fiscal year that ended June 30 despite a budget cut of about $100,000. SC Archives Finds Confederate-Era Money No One Knew Existed
A retired USC history professor who’s volunteering his time to go through boxes of Confederate-era money at the South Carolina Department of Archives and History made a surprising discovery Tuesday morning. Civil War-Era Cannons To Be Raised From SC River
Historical remnants from a Civil War-era gunboat will be pulled from the depths of the Pee Dee River by a team of underwater archaeologists looking to preserve and, in the future, display a part of the area’s early history. The team is preparing to raise three Confederate cannons, each weighing more than 15 tons, from the watery resting places some 150 years after they were sunk by Confederate troops as Union Gen. William T. Sherman’s troops bared down on the Pee Dee, said state underwater archaeologist Christopher Amer.

Governor Perdue Signs Confederate Heritage Bill
Gov. Sonny Perdue has signed a bill designating April as Confederate Heritage and History Month in Georgia. The new designation is designed to boost tourism at the state’s Civil War battle sites.

Study Focuses On Underwater Civil War Artifacts
A University of South Carolina archaeologist is scanning the bottom of Charleston Harbor for Civil War artifacts, using a twin-outboard motor boat and a clutch of scientific equipment. James Spirek of the South Carolina Institute for Archaeology and Anthropology has been on the water this week putting together the first comprehensive historical scan of the harbor bottom.
