UPDATED: Family Of Local Businessman Jay Weinberger Issue Statement

Friends and family members are mourning the loss of a well-known Augusta businessman. Jay Weinberger, known for his family furniture business, was found dead early this morning, in Putnam county, Georgia. The Sheriff there says it’s unlike any case he’s seen in his 36 years of law enforcement.

UPDATED: Fiery Crash Destroys Popular Glascock County Barn

One person is dead, and a landmark for Glascock County destroyed, after an alleged car chase. We’re told the Georgia State Patrol is investigating the fiery crash that happened Saturday night, in Glascock County. A viewer sent pictures in to our newsroom from the scene. They tell us about 10 fire trucks responded. We’re told the chase started following a traffic stop in Wrens.

Police: SC Man Killed In Traffic Was Being Chased

Authorities say a South Carolina man struck and killed by a car was chased into traffic by two men in another car. Multiple media outlets reported that 30-year-old Jason Stewart was killed Saturday night as he tried to run away from someone who threatened him while trying to rob him at his home in Greenville.

BREAKING NEWS: Arrest Made In MCG Assault

According to Lt. Scott Peebles, on Thursday afternoon, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has filed charges against 28-year-old Roger Antonio Bettis, of North Augusta, in reference to the June 3rd assault of a 63-year-old woman at MCG Hospital.

UPDATED: Suspect Nabbed In North Augusta Police Shooting

The suspect in the shooting of a North Augusta Department of Public Safety officer was arrested by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, Thursday night. Officers received a tip that suspect was at an Augusta hotel. Multiple agencies, including SLED, assisted in the arrest. WJBF News Channel 6’s Corey Epps was the only camera there when the suspect was brought to the Richmond County Law Enforcement Center. UPDATE: According to a release form SLED, Timothy Houston has been extradicted to South Carolina from Georgia, and is now held at the Aiken County Detention Center

They say 40-year-old Timothy Houston shot one of their officers in the face, Wednesday night. We spoke with Houston’s daughter Thursday, who says she last saw her father Wednesday. UPDATED: Search Continues For Suspect Who Shot North Augusta Public Safety Officer

The search is on for a man suspected of shooting a North Augusta Department of Public Safety officer. He was shot while chasing a suspect near Bradleyville Road, in North Augusta. The suspect has been identified as Timothy Houston. NOON UPDATE: Officer Kevin Hayes is resting at home after being treated and released at MCG. The reason for the pursuit was because the car had plates on it that didn’t belong on the suspect’s car. Several law enforcement agencies are involved in the investigation, including the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED).

A trucker clung to the back of his trailerless semi Tuesday while a man police say commandeered the vehicle led police on a 50-mile chase down an interstate in Georgia. The semi eventually slowed enough for the trucker to leap off near the end of the chase.

UPDATED: Augusta Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested After High Speed Chase

The Bank of America branch on the 2800 block of Washington was robbed Friday afternoon. Several law enforcement agencies were involved in the search process for the suspect, after a high speed chase. The suspect was arrested near the Grovetown, Georgia exit on I-20. We’re told that the suspect vehicle hit speeds over 100 MPH during the pursuit.
